Sint Nicolaes te Paerd Gezeten Aldag (1833). This colorful illustration from 1822, which translates as “folk print of St. Nicholas on horseback”, is one of several similar paintings that show Sint Niklaas, which can be spelled a number of different ways, or Sinter Klaas riding a horse while distributing gifts or candy to children following behind. Like the others, it includes a figure on horseback riding the rooftops.
