Santeclaus in bedroom: Arthur Stansbury, The Children’s Friend, 1821
Children hanging their stockings at the foot of their bed in the expectation that Santeclaus would arrive during the night
In The Children’s Friend, the two children hung their stockings at the foot of their bed in the expectation that Santeclaus would arrive during the night, descend down the chimney, fill the stockings with gifts and depart for the next house on a flying sleigh—a practice that was identical to that in Moore’s poem except for the place where the stockings were hung.
