This illustration, also by Robert Seymour for Hervey’s Book of Christmas, lacks the obvious references to drinking but still manages to convey a party-hardy look as Old Christmas leads a group of mummers in song during the Christmas season. Sadly, artist Seymour killed himself months after this was published following a dispute with Charles Dickens’ over illustration of the Pickwick Papers.
